WeWork 1 Belvedere Drive, located in Mill Valley, California, is a testament to The We Company's commitment to creating unique and engaging workspaces. Designed by Adam Kimmel, this co-working space embraces the natural beauty of its surroundings while providing a functional and aesthetically pleasing environment for its members.
The inspiration behind the design was to create a space that feels like home and reflects the unique vibe of Mill Valley. Taking cues from the warmth found in John Lautner and Sea Ranch homes, the design team incorporated local woods and materials to create custom millwork throughout the space. The use of white oak, a tree native to the region, can be seen in the pantry, bookshelves, coffee tables, desks, and shelving, adding a sense of authenticity and connection to the local environment.
One of the unique features of WeWork 1 Belvedere Drive is its ability to transform and adapt to different needs. The lounge area, designed to accommodate large events, is designed with multi-functionality in mind. The community bar serves as a reception area and working zone during the day, and can be configured as a DJ booth with a serving area during events. The main conference room, facing the lounge, is fully soundproofed and can be transformed into a stage for open mic nights or comedy shows. The pantry island is designed to facilitate large gatherings, providing a central focal point for members to connect and collaborate.
In addition to its functional design, WeWork 1 Belvedere Drive showcases a curated collection of artwork that reflects the heritage of the Bay Area. The space features a complex collection of materials and artworks that engage with its surroundings, creating a visually stimulating and inspiring environment for its members.
Completed in March 2019, WeWork 1 Belvedere Drive has quickly become a hub for professionals in Mill Valley and beyond. Its unique design, attention to detail, and commitment to creating a space that embraces the spirit of its location have earned it recognition in the design community. The space was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020, a prestigious accolade that recognizes outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that contribute to quality of life improvements.
WeWork 1 Belvedere Drive is a testament to The We Company's dedication to creating innovative and inspiring workspaces that cater to the needs of its members. With its Northern California aesthetic and localized design elements, this co-working space sets a new standard for co-working spaces in suburban environments.
